World's Longest Singletrack Race Adds Solo Class

Worlds Longest Singletrack Race Adds Solo Class

The 2009 BC Bike Race The Ultimate Singletrack Experience offers participants the opportunity to ride alone. BC Bike Race is proud to announce the addition of three Solo categories: Open Men (Men 40+), Open Women (Men 40+), and Open Men (Open Men).

Solo category riders will have the opportunity to race for 7 days. This will add to the existing competitive 2 person team format as well as the recreational 2, 3, 4, and 5 person team formats, which require two riders at any one time.

BC Bike Race takes riders from Vancouver to Whistler on the famous singletrack in British Columbia. It is an adventure that is sure to make any rider’s year memorable.

We are stepping into new territory by including solos in a discipline that is traditionally dominated by teams. BC Bike Race recognized that many people had difficulty finding team partners, particularly those who were not from a large center. Kathy Lilyholm, BC Bike Race Racer Relations Manager said that we are working to address this issue by adding solo categories. We want everyone to be able participate in our event.

This announcement comes on the heels a newly unveiled route for 2009. It starts in Vancouver and takes you over the Lions Gate Bridge to get you onto the North Shore trails. These route changes, along with additional Day 2 and 3 routes, have added even more singletrack to the BC Bike Race.

Hoots for Let the people ride! The new BC Bike Race office rang as Brooks Hogya, Safety Director, gave the final approval for the Solo category.

They will ride. All mountain bikers can now participate in the BC Bike Race Solo category from June 28 to July 4, and enjoy what race organizers call the ultimate 7-day mountain biking experience.
